Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before booking.
Answers to what clients typically ask before getting in touch.
- How do I know if I actually need a full replacement or if a repair will hold for a few more years?
- Rick or Rich will give you a straight answer after looking at the equipment, not before. They consider the age of the system, the cost of the repair relative to what a replacement would run, and how the unit has been performing overall. If a repair makes financial sense, that is what they will recommend. The goal is to give you the information you need to make a good decision, not to sell you something you do not need.
- My furnace stopped working. How fast can you get here?
- Romea and Son responds quickly to heating and cooling failures, particularly during cold snaps and heat waves when the urgency is real. Call as early in the day as possible and Rick will let you know what same-day or next-day availability looks like. On a full system replacement, customers have gone from a first call on a Thursday morning to a completed installation the following Monday.
- Can you tell me the full cost before you start the work?
- Yes. Estimates on new installations and replacements are free, and repair diagnostics are explained clearly before any work begins. You will know what the job involves and what it costs before Romea and Son picks up a tool. There are no surprise charges added after the fact.
- Are you licensed and insured, and can you pull the permits my township requires?
- Romea and Son is fully licensed and insured for residential and commercial HVAC work in Pennsylvania. For installations that require permits in Allegheny County municipalities, including townships like Ross, Baldwin, and Penn Hills, the business handles that process as part of the job. You will not be left to sort out the paperwork on your own.
- Do you work on my brand of equipment, or will you push me toward a specific system?
- Romea and Son services all makes and models and does not steer customers toward a particular brand to benefit from a dealer relationship. When a replacement is needed, Rick will discuss options across several manufacturers and help you weigh efficiency ratings, warranty terms, and price so the choice reflects your home and your budget.
- Do you offer maintenance agreements so I am not caught off guard by another breakdown?
- Yes. Romea and Son offers service agreements that include regular maintenance visits and warranty coverage. Annual tune-ups catch the kinds of small problems that become expensive failures mid-winter or in the middle of a heat wave, and a service agreement keeps your equipment running at its designed efficiency.
- Do you handle commercial HVAC work, or only residential?
- Romea and Son works with both residential homeowners and commercial clients across Greater Pittsburgh, including office spaces, retail, and warehouse facilities. Commercial work includes ductwork design and installation, multi-zone systems, smart thermostat integration, and ventilation strategies suited to the specific space and occupancy demands.
- How long will I be without heat or air conditioning during an installation?
- A standard furnace or air conditioning installation is typically completed in a single day. Rick and Rich work efficiently and do not leave a job unfinished overnight. Before the work begins, they will walk you through the expected timeline so you can plan accordingly.
- Can you install a smart thermostat and make sure it works correctly with my system?
- Yes. Romea and Son installs and configures smart thermostats, including models like Nest, as part of a new system installation or as a standalone upgrade. Proper wiring matters, and they will make sure the thermostat is compatible with your equipment and set up correctly before they leave.
- Do you handle indoor air quality, including humidifiers and air cleaners?
- Yes. Romea and Son installs whole-home humidifiers, air cleaners, and ventilation components that work in conjunction with your heating and cooling system. For Pittsburgh homes where winter air gets very dry and summer humidity can make a house feel damp and close, these additions make a noticeable difference in daily comfort.
